Terms of Use

The rules for using SeeMate, in plain language. The fair-play section matters most.

Effective 24 October 2026

Agreement

These Terms of Use apply to the SeeMate app and this website. SeeMate is developed by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). By installing or using SeeMate, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Beta software

SeeMate is currently beta software. It may contain bugs, may recognise positions or moves incorrectly, and features may change or be removed. The app, its move suggestions and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”. Engine suggestions are for learning and entertainment and may not always be the best move.

Fair play

You are solely responsible for how and where you use SeeMate.

  • Do not use SeeMate during rated, online or tournament games, whether over the board or on the internet, or anywhere else its use breaks the rules. For example, the FIDE Laws of Chess prohibit electronic devices in the playing venue, and Chess.com and Lichess prohibit engine assistance.
  • Do not use SeeMate to deceive an opponent. In casual games, make sure the people you play with know you are using it.

We are not responsible for any sanctions, bans, lost games or other consequences of using SeeMate in breach of these rules.

Respect other people's privacy

  • When you use camera glasses or your phone's camera around others, tell people nearby that you are using a camera, and respect their wishes.
  • Follow the rules of the venue you are in, including any ban on cameras or electronic devices.
  • Never cover or obscure the recording LED on Ray-Ban Meta glasses. It exists so people know the camera is active.
  • Comply with applicable laws, and with Meta's terms for the glasses and the Meta AI app.

Trademarks

Ray-Ban is a trademark of Luxottica; Meta and Meta AI are trademarks of Meta Platforms, Inc. SeeMate is an independent app and is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Meta or EssilorLuxottica. Other names are the property of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.

App Store and TestFlight

When SeeMate is distributed through the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA) applies in addition to these terms. Beta builds are distributed through Apple's TestFlight under Apple's TestFlight terms. Apple is not responsible for SeeMate or its content.

Open-source components

SeeMate includes third-party components, such as the Arasan chess engine, which are provided under their own licences. See Acknowledgements.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SeeMate is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every device, glasses firmware or Meta AI version.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, games, ratings or opportunities, arising from your use of or inability to use SeeMate. Our total liability for any claim relating to SeeMate is limited to the amount you paid for the app, if any. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

Changes and termination

We may update these terms from time to time; the latest version is always on this page. We may change or stop offering SeeMate or the beta at any time. You can stop using SeeMate at any time by deleting the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the developer's place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory laws of your country of residence give you additional protection.
